Canadian club’s “Strip-a-thon” nets $24 grand for charityWe’re not sure if this is an indication that charities in the Great White North are more receptive to donations from adult nightclubs than their counterparts are in the U.S., but the Christmas Hamper Society was more than happy to accept a $24,000 offering from the Caddyshack Showroom Pub in Maple Ridge (British Columbia), Canada. “This will help a lot of children,” said Tom Cameron, co-chair of the Hamper Society, in a recent Maple Ridge News article. The Society provides Christmas gifts for more than 900 children and close to 500 families. “I don’t think we’ll have any hardships this year.” The Pub’s owner, Yvan Charette, was concerned that with the current economy, his club’s “Strip-a-thon” wouldn’t break $15,000. Instead, the club set a record for their annual event which stretches back 15 years. The club’s 15 performers, four DJs, six servers, six bartenders, and five security guards all donated their wages and tips for the day to the local Christmas charity. But the bulk of the money raised came from the club’s silent auction, which featured items such as barbecues and coolers, all donated by the club’s suppliers. More than 200 people came out to the event, buying tickets for $10 each. When all was said and done, the club raised $23,800. Charette’s wife put in an extra $200 to bump to total to $24,000. While the Maple Ridge News reported that some in the community do not approve of strip club’s raising money for charity, Charette simply shrugs them off. “My main goal is just to focus on making the event a success,” said Charette. “It’s a fundraiser for charity. Why would you slam it?” |
